Recto: "Getty division // This fort is on our extreme right & is one of the finest positions on our line - 6 gun Battery - two foot cavities are dug to place our cassions for protection from the enemy's shot // Blue Ridge a mellowy distance // logs."
Verso: "View from Ft. Picketts 6th Corps // I promised Gen. Wright that the this and the first Rhode Island battery sketch should be published - this gallant corps has been neglected by us a publication of these will tickle Mr Wright and make me - Hunky Dory - (classic Terence) among his satellites - (artistic Diplomacy) // Gen Seymour is a son in law to Harrison Wier & quite a connoisseur in art - he seemed much pleased with my sketches several of which I showed him - he is a West Pointer & while Sheridan was there taught him drawing - [signed] Taylor."
