Recto: "Rebel bottom // Ball strikes // tents."
Verso: "The Rebels opening on the train passing over the branch Road leading from the City Point to the Weldon Railroad from their batteries on Cemetery [sic] Hill // The rebels have a disagreeable practice of firing on the passing trains every day at this point but we are making preparations to throw up works protecting them // [Signed] J.B."

Vertical and horizontal folds; remains of old adhesive at left and right margins; rip along horizontal fold at right margin.
