Recto: "10 oars // Lieut Pierce Crosty [?] // wounded cart // June 10th // A battle in force 10 miles from the fort. I send hasty sketch of the force crossing Hampton Creek forming in lines & marching out in double quick time. The Zouaves (Duryee's) Townsends 3rd reg, Allen's 1st Carr's 2nd crossed in order named supported by 3 regiments from Newport News. engaged the enemy. Shall send sketch from action as soon as possible."
