Recto: "Burning and explosion of the magazine of the rebel gunboat Curlew, on the western shore of Croatan Sound opposite Fort Huger, evening of Saturday -- Feb 9th -- this was the best of the rebel gunboats & seemed to have run ashore & so prevent her falling into the hands of the "yankees" she was destroyed. The rebel battery which was located near the scene of the conflagration is now in our possession. See dailies. // [Signed] F.H.S."
