Verso: "Goldsboro Aprl 6 - // Reception of the news of the fall of Richmond, & Grand enthusiasm of Sherman's army - Carl Shurz arrived here this morning and was the Herland of the glorious event ! - the despatch [sic] was written at once & pasted upon a black board - around which throughout the day a frantic crowd of enthusiasts gathered & devoured the news - a great day here! -."
