Recto: "Dress parade of the South Carolina Volunteers on the Beach at Sullivan's Island // Mrs. & Miss Pickens wife & daughter of the Governor accompanied by Aid de Camps Lieutenants Colonel Lucas and Iuber passing along the line. The forces stationed on the island are composed of the Richland Rifles who have the post of Honor on the Right Flank the Wee Nee Volunteers on left--The Abbeville Volunteers the Rhett Guard etc. etc. from 12 to 1500 strong // Miss Pickens Ermine cape, muff // Hat with feathers // Mrs. Pickens black jockey hat with Red Feather with Sable Cape // Basque black silk dress & parasol muff // she must be young & pretty // Captain Miller // Dress of Company dark gray Hunting frock quilted on chest & back (ditto pants) Trimmed with black velvet // sand // Takes place everyday at 4 o'clock afternoon // [flag] Richland Volunteer Rifle Company // August 8, 1815 // Radcliffe // Semper Paratus // Noli Me Tangere // [flag] The Fair of Newbury to the Rhett Guard."
