Recto: "Mr. Sheppard."
Verso: "About one hundred dwellings containing about 2000 dwellers were destroyed in the fire. // These houses led out of Pearl on the border of fort hill. The Charity Releif [sic] comt [sic] are taking the matter in charge at the charity Building situated on Hawkins & Cardon street. The sketch represents families who were burned out applying at Charity Building for relief. Mr. Sheppard is taking down their statements so that the investigating commte [sic] can immediately inquire into their condition & furnish their wants both of food & limited quantities of household effects to start them again."
