Verso: "Siege of Vicksburg - How are men live in the trenches. Portion of [inserted: Leggett's Brigade] McPherson's 17th Army Corps - Bivouacked at the 'White House' - Notice the two short holes in the house - which is already well riddled. The opening in the bank to the left of the house is the entrance to the covered way by which the rebel works are approached // [different hand] Life in the Trenches."
